A member of Lebanon County’s state legislative delegation has announced he has cancer.
102nd district Representative Russ Diamond said he has a treatable form of prostate cancer and underwent a procedure Thursday, June 9, 2022 as part of his treatment for the disease.
Releasing a statement on Facebook, the 58-year old Diamond said his doctors made the diagnosis after regular checkups and screenings revealed abnormalities.
The four-term Republican said he will be working from home and voting remotely during his recovery, adding that he’s grateful doctors caught this cancer quickly and have worked out a treatment plan that will address his medical issues and allow him to continue serving in the General Assembly in Harrisburg.
Although his bid to secure the the Republican Party nomination for Lt. Governor fell very short in May, Diamond won the GOP primary in the 102nd district and is seeking a fifth term. He faces Democrat Laura Quick in the general election this fall.
Diamond said he encourages every Pennsylvanian to make sure they schedule regular checkups with their doctors and be aware of screening guidelines so early detection and treatment of cancer can be possible.
