A school bus driver who failed to check her bus for students, stranding a Jonestown Elementary kindergarten student on the empty bus for over an hour last Tuesday, has now been charged by state police.
Troopers from the Jonestown Barracks filed a charge of endangering the welfare of a child against 36-year old Stephanie McAbee of Pottsville.
The five year old boy fell asleep during his hour-long ride to school from his home near Fort Indiantown Gap. He was discovered standing in the parking lot of D.B. Fisher Bus Company, crying, more than an hour after the bus had been dropped off.
The Lebanon Valley Daily News spoke with Nicole Vogie, the little boy’s mother, last Friday. She said McAbee failed to follow standard bus driver protocol:
According to a published report, Northern Lebanon Superintendent, Dr. Gary Messinger told Vogie that McAbee was fired after the incident came to light.
