Man and Dog Struck and Killed in Robesonia

A 68-year old man walking his dog early this morning in Robesonia Borough, Berks County, was struck and killed alongside his pet.

The victim tripped and fell as he attempted to cross East Penn Avenue – Route 422 – in the area of the Dunkin Donuts store shortly after 4:30AM and was then hit by three different vehicles, according to South Heidelberg Township Police, which provide contracted police coverage for Robesonia.

Investigators obtained surveillance video showing the victim attempting to stand up after tripping, when he was struck by a large, straight-body refrigerator box truck. The video shows the truck continuing east on Penn Avenue.

The man was then struck by a small, silver car, followed by what is believed to be a tanker truck. Police say the drivers of those vehicles also kept going.

While investigators have already obtained eyewitness statements, they’re asking anyone else who saw the incident to come forward and report what they know to South Heidelberg Township Police, or Crime Alert Berks County.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
