It was a historic morning yesterday at the Lebanon City and County Inauguration ceremony, as a new Magisterial District Judge was sworn into office for the city of Lebanon.
After narrowly defeating James Capello last November, Aurelis Figueroa now will serve the city of Lebanon’s 52-2-01 Magisterial District for the next six years.
She donner her black robe after her inauguration and took her seat on the bench next to the other five district judges in the county before speaking exclusively with the Lebanon Valley Daily News after the ceremony.
Because she is not an attorney, Figueroa had to take a certification class and pass an exam in order to assume the bench, which was not an easy thing to do:
As for the magnitude of what she’s accomplished, Figueroa says she hopes to be an inspiration to others:
Figueroa was a real estate agent and community activist prior to winning election.
