Cumberland St. Pedestrian Crossings to Get Upgrade

Lebanon City Council approved the filing of an application to PennDOT last week for the installation of Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFB) on Cumberland Street downtown for both the Liberty Street and Chapel Street mid-block pedestrian crossings.

Mayor Sherry Capello told council that mid-block pedestrian crossings are less than optimal, but these two have been in existence for a very long time.

With the amount of foot traffic expected once the new City Hall building opens at 735 Cumberland Street later this month, they’ll be even more important:

The mayor added that with the upcoming streetscape project on Cumberland Street this summer, there will be some enhancements made to those crossings to make them safer:

Mayor Capello said the flashing beacons that will be installed will be attached to Victorian- style posts, in keeping with the look of historic, downtown Lebanon.
