There are three students from the Lebanon County Career & Technology Center Class of 2022 competing this week in Atlanta, Georgia at the SkillsUSA national competition, the pinnacle of Technical Education competitions.
Alexis Shytle is representing the Culinary Arts, Gracie Adams is competing in Pastry Arts and Devin Barker is competing in Computer Network Technology.
Speaking with WLBR News from Atlanta, Shytle discussed what she’ll be whipping up in the culinary arts competition Thursday:
Alexis and Gracie have been accompanied by Chef Brian Peffley, who heads the CTC’s Pastry Arts program.
While he’s allowed to be with the students as moral support when the competition is underway, Peffley can’t provide any coaching during the competition.
But given what these young ladies have already accomplished, he’s not too concerned:
Peffley has been teaching for 26 years and has sent 24 students to nationals. However, while the culinary and pastry arts students have won national silver and bronze medals at SkillsUSA, he’s hoping 2022 will be the year to bring home gold.
