A Lebanon County auctioneer took the coveted, Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association Bid-Calling trophy this year during the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
John Stauffer of Newmanstown competed in the annual contest a couple other times and did pretty good, taking second place in 2016 and 2019.
He says winning the contest this year is truly the fulfillment of a lot of hard work:
For this contest, Stauffer and his competitors had to bring a few items of their own that they auctioned off in early rounds, with proceeds going to the farm show scholarship fund.
In the final rounds, each contestant was given two items that were supplied to the contest which they had never seen before. They only had five minutes to inspect the items and get ready to auction them off.
Stauffer’s items were a framed painting of a horse and an ATV winch. He’s still unclear as to what it does:
With this victory, Stauffer will automatically get an invitation to the National auctioneer Bid Calling Contest in San Diego. However, he’s not sure if he’ll make the trip.
